Abstract
A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of a group of sensors, called motes, which monitor different physical conditions at different locations. The applications of this technology include home automation, environment monitoring, healthcare or security/military applications.
A wide range of different solutions is currently used by the different vendors, both for implementation and testing, which makes difficult to assure the quality of a particular application. The complexity and growing importance of these networks makes necessary to find a good testing technique to assure the robustness and reliability of a particular solution.
TTCN-3 is a mature technology already, which enables a standardized, reusable and automated approach to testing. It has been applied to many different protocols, including Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN), like Bluetooth. Motivated by a current work in the WSN field, the introduction of TTCN-3 in this area has been evaluated by MTP, with interesting results.
This presentation discusses the challenges and limitations observed for TTCN-3 testing applied to WSNs. It will be shown how TTCN-3 can play a key role in testing the different applications, once a standard is completely defined in the near future.
